About

How The Trash Finder’s Ball works:

  • Beverly residents dress up in funky outfits and bring their most prized trash find to the ball.
  • The judges and volunteers process the trash find entries and display them for viewing.
  • The ballroom is decorated with boots with flowers inside them, newspaper tablecloths and other found oddities.
  • The  Trash Finder’s Ball song is sung, and The Trashion Show begins as the participants  parade their homemade outfits made from recycled materials while being introduced by the emcee.
  • Following the Trashion Show a live band plays a short set of songs.
  • The emcee announces the five finalists. Each finalist is interviewed by the emcee, the idea being that the story behind the trash find is as important as the find itself.
  • The judges quickly huddle and soon the winner is announced. The winner is handed a trophy made from trash and is seated in a large purple throne, then the emcee sings, Second Hand Rose to the winner.

The documentary and ball were both featured in the the North Shore Art Throb’s article, “The Best Things in Life Are Free,”  by Jennifer Jean.
